In 1997, the State of Colorado initiated a state-wide student assessment program. The assessments are designed to give parents, teachers, students and administrators a snapshot of where students stand, not in relation to each other as in a norm-referenced test, but in relation to their ability to reach the educational content standards adopted by the State of Colorado in 1995. Students results are reported as:

• Advanced
• Proficient
• Satisfactory
• Unsatisfactory
