The Cheyenne Mountain School District Facilities Blue Ribbon Panel was formed by the Board of Education in July 2007. The Board asked the Panel to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the District's "older" elementary schools (Broadmoor, Cañon, Cheyenne Mountain, and Skyway Elementary Schools), to include enrollment history, enrollment trends, building capacity, and current facility conditions. The Board also asked the Panel to provide their "recommendations on the most desirable course of action to address the long-term facilities and enrollment needs of the elementary schools in the District."
The Panel would like to recognize the support of Dr. Walt Cooper,
Superintendent of Schools, and Janet Suthers, Past President of
the Board of Education. Their support and guidance is appreciated
and helped to expedite and facilitate the Panel's work. Dr. Cooper's
insight and staff support was also extremely beneficial.
Throughout its work, the Panel reviewed data from a myriad of
sources to gain a strong sense of the capital facility needs facing
the District and to understand the trends and projections of student
enrollment. In forming its recommendations, the Panel maintained
a continual focus on the relationship between these two issues
and how affecting one impacts the other. As a result, it is important
for readers to only consider the report as a whole, and to not
view any statements, data, or recommendations contained therein
in isolation.
