Cheyenne Mountain School District accepts the
responsibility for providing a free and appropriate public education
for children ages three to twenty-one, who are eligible for special
education services. In honoring the central tenets of the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Exceptional Children's
Education Act (ECEA) statutes, students with a variety of special
needs are offered a continuum of services in which they are integrated
in the general education community. As such, students have access
to the general education curricula along with appropriate supplemental
aides and services. Special education teachers, speech/language
pathologists, school psychologists, social workers, behavioral
consultants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, vision
and hearing specialists and a variety of other support staff each
work collaboratively to ensure an appropriate education for students
with special needs. The district serves approximately 250 students,
preschool to 12th grade or transition to age 21.
