David Peak, Ph.D.

David Peak assumed the role of Superintendent in the Cheyenne Mountain School District on July 1, 2021.

Dr. Peak grew up in a small farm town in southeastern Minnesota before attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading Instruction.  Upon graduating in 1993, Dr. Peak followed his love of the mountains and passion for the outdoors by moving to Colorado Springs where he began his teaching career at Broadmoor Elementary School in Cheyenne Mountain School District.

Dr. Peak started his administration career in Ellicott, Colorado, as an assistant principal for Elliott Elementary School and later inaugural principal of Ellicott Middle School, which achieved the recognition of the Governor’s Most Improved School during his tenure.  Dr. Peak moved to Academy District 20 in 2004, where he served as the principal of Timberview Middle School, director for human resources, and eventually assistant superintendent for human resources.  Under his leadership, Timberview Middle School earned Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) by closing student achievement gaps for the first time in the school’s history.  He also led district implementation of the Educator Effectiveness Act, revamped staff compensation and benefits, and coached principals and administrators.

In addition, Dr. Peak maintains an active role with the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE); serves as a trainer of trainers for McGrath TRUE-SPEAK Succeed; teaches courses for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS); and is a 2014 alumnus of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Colorado Springs Leadership Institute.
