IF SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED OR DELAYED

PARENTS MAY USE THEIR OWN JUDGMENT...

Parents may use their own judgment when weather conditions are severe. If you intend to keep your child home, please notify the school office. Ultimately, the decision on whether to send a child to school on inclement weather days rests with parents. This is an important option for parents to keep in mind throughout the entire winter because, inevitably, there will be times when the roads in the majority of the District are safe for travel, but a specific street or route may not be. In this case, all parents need to do is communicate to their school the reason for their child's absence, and the absence will not negatively affect the student's attendance or academic record.

This same attendance exception holds true throughout the day during inclement weather as well. Except under the most extreme circumstances, school will not dismiss early once we have begun because we know from previous experience that the disruption and difficulty this causes for families is extreme. However, if during a school day the weather deteriorates to the point that parents feel it is best to pick up their son or daughter from school, then we encourage them to do so.

Cheyenne Mountain School District uses an Internet-based system for notifying the news media of changes in school schedules, such as weather-related delays and closures, etc. School district officials do not contact media outlets directly.
