Assistive Technology (AT) Team

SWAAAC/Assistive Technology Team

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) supports district Assistive Technology (AT) teams across the state. These teams are called State-Wide Assistive Technology, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (SWAAAC) teams.  The SWAAAC and/or AT team is an interdisciplinary team comprised of professionals such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, special educators, psychologists, etc. These teams provide assistive technology services designed to enable students with disabilities to achieve fuller access and participation in all educational opportunities.

Assistive technology is any tool that helps individuals function more effectively in order to gain access to educational opportunities.  Students who have disabilities that interfere with their communication, learning, social relationships, mobility, and active participation are potential users of technology.  Any member of a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) team may initiate a referral to the district Assistive Technology team.  An assessment is conducted with parent permission.  For additional information, please call 719-327-2823.
