District Crisis Team

Cheyenne Mountain School District's District Crisis Team (DCT) is an organized group of school professionals who are trained as first responders in emergencies while supporting schools during, and after, a crisis. The District utilizes three research-based frameworks in dealing with emergencies and crises.

The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is used in dealing with physical threats to school/district facilities. The procedures include Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. The SRP is simply a classroom response enhancement for critical incidents, designed to provide consistent, clear, shared language and actions among all students, staff and first responders. These procedures enhance the district's existing safety plans. The following is a link to the I Love You Guys website: I Love You Guys. Another vital training area from the SRP is the Standard Reunification Method (SRM). The SRM is the way in which we reunify students with their parents during a controlled release. Please see the links to understand your role in supporting our efforts with the SRP as well as the SRM.

The district also utilizes the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) PREPaRE curriculum. The PREPaRE curriculum is an evidence-based resource used by schools to guide professionals to enhance their safety and crisis management plans and emergency response. In Cheyenne Mountain School District our first responders are trained in PREPaRE Workshop I: Comprehensive School Safety Planning: Prevention through Recovery, and/or PREPaRE Workshop II: Mental Health Crisis Interventions: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools.

The District Crisis Team is also trained in the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) Introduction to the Incident Command System.

Building Crisis Team (BCT)

A Building Crisis Team is a group of school professionals who have the knowledge and skills to act in any emergency or crisis in a school. The principal leads it. Building Crisis Teams (BCT) train staff on the Standard Response Protocol and PREPaRE. Each BCT has an annual checklist to ensure that training occurs for each staff member, drills are practiced, a chain of command is established and known, and is prepared to be the first responders in an emergency or crisis situation.
