Special Education

Cheyenne Mountain School District (CMSD) accepts the responsibility for providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for children ages 3-21, who are eligible for special education and related services. In honoring the central tenets of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) statutes, students have access to the general education curriculum and community with appropriate supplemental aides and services. CMSD offers a continuum of services to students with disabilities based on individual, educational needs. The district employs to include special education teachers, speech/language pathologists, school psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, vision and hearing specialists, and a variety of other support staff. The district serves approximately 500 students who are eligible for special education from preschool through transition (age 21).
